Home

No one likes living in an unorganized Home. Unfortunately, we don’t always have the time to keep everything in order. Our lives get busy, and we just put things where they are convenient, and allow junk to pile up. Then eventually the day comes where you can no longer stand it, and you decide to do something about the mess in your home. If this is where you’re at, here are 5 tips you’ll need to start organizing your home.

Get Rid of the Junk

First, you need to clear out the junk. Chances are you have some things in your home that you don’t have a use for, but which you haven’t gotten rid of for some reason. Maybe you have an old television in your basement gathering dust that you thought you might use one day. Or perhaps there’s some old toys that your kids have grown out of, and now they’re just taking up room in the attic. Whatever it is, now is the time to get rid of it.

Go through all your junk and sort it into piles. The first pile is things you think have some value, that you can try to sell. The next pile are things that you can donate to charity. The final pile is stuff that you can’t imagine giving away or selling, so you’re just going to throw it away. Once you’ve gotten everything into piles, start finding a new home for each item, even if that home is the trash.

Go Through Your Clothing

While you’re going through your junk, it’s a good idea to pay special attention to your clothing. We all have items in our closet that we think we will wear someday, but we never do. Now is the perfect time to clear out some space in your closet and find a better home for your old clothes.

A great strategy, according to this maid service in Atlanta, is to “turn all of your hangers in your closet backwards before purging items. As you wear items, you can flip your hangers around to the right way. When it is time to purge your closet in 6 months, find everything that is still backwards. If you have not worn it in 6 months, chances are slim you will miss it if you purge it.”

Use Storage Containers

Now that you’ve gotten rid of the clutter in your home, it’s time to start organizing what’s left. A great way to do this is with storage containers. You have two main options: First, you can buy some containers for your home. Grab some plastic tubs of varying sizes and store your belongings in them. This will help to keep things together and give your home a sense of order.

Your other option is to rent out a storage container or locker. If you have a lot of stuff that you want to keep, but don’t want it cluttering your home, moving it off site is a good idea. You can rent out a small storage container for a relatively small amount each month, and finally get rid of all that stuff that’s been clogging up your home.

Get Your Family on Board

If you’re not the only person living in your home, it’s important that you get everyone else on board. It’s hard to keep a home organized if you’re the only one making an effort. Talk to the other members of your household about what junk they can get rid of, and make sure they keep up with their own organizational habits. If you can get your entire family on board with your new organizing goal, you’ll have a much easier time reaching it.

Keep Up Your Good Habits

It’s easy to organize your home once and assume that’s all you need to do. However, if you don’t form some new habits, you’ll likely find yourself in the same position this time next year. To prevent yourself from having to perform a deep cleanse each year, keep up good habits year round. See something in your basement that you no longer use? Get rid of it. Are things not being put back in their proper place? Fix it now, rather than putting it off. Sparing a few minutes here and there throughout the year is a better plan than having to devote a whole weekend towards cleaning each year.

Organizing your home isn’t difficult, but it does take time and dedication. However, if you do devote the energies necessary, you’ll find it’s one of the better home improvement projects you can do. Hopefully with the few tips above you’ll be able to add some order to your home and make it a more enjoyable place to live year-round.
