Undoubtedly, an idea well executed can be a great business. But when creating a business or running one, security must be something you have to consider. It’s not only about the quality of your service or product that you sell.

The safety of customers, workers, and the business is essential. One of the security ramifications you must take into account is online security. No matter if your business is not online, everyone relies on technology. Below you will find some of the most important aspects that will help you start.

Identifying the most common threats

Cyber-attacks are pretty common nowadays, it might sound a bit of a fantasy, but it is not. It doesn’t need much, but knowledge (from both sides) is the keystone in this regard. First, the attacker must know how to find a vulnerability to harm you; and avoid the attack. So, it’s impossible to be ready and avoid every cyber-threats out there unless that’s what you do for a living. But knowing the most common attacks and how to prevent being a victim would be the best.

The most common cyber attacks are:

  • Malware
  • Phishing
  • Man-in-the-middle attack (MitM)
  • Denial-of-service attack (DoS)
  • SQL injection
  • Zero-day exploit
  • DNS tunneling

Cyber safety education and essential tools

Emails, pop-ups, and odd links are among the most common ways to get malware in your system. The best way to prevent this minor issue from escalating a lot is by informing yourself and your workers. It’s not only when they are working but also how they can protect themselves when they aren’t at work. It’s crucial when they use at least one device in and outside of the work.

Software

If you are using any particular software, keep it updated. The developers are constantly working on updates for two important things:

  • The performance of the software
  • The improvements in security for users.

These updates apply to all the software you work on, including your operative system.

Other tools

Let’s consider other tools as any software non-related to your work that can help you. Web browsers have a wide selection of widgets, apps, and extensions that you can use for your good. Extensions, like a VPN for Chrome, can help you protect your connection. As a reminder, before you install or use any tool, be sure that a well-known company is the owner/developer.

Passwords

If you checked the list above, you know you should pay attention to certain aspects. Passwords are an easy step to enhance your security. By creating strong passwords, you have fewer chances to be vulnerable. Combining upper and lower case with symbols and numbers is a remarkable change.

Antivirus

Antivirus and antimalware are products that will keep you safe from certain risks. These won’t ensure you will be safe forever but will reduce the chances of any possible common risk. Threats through emails, pop-ups, and odd links or unknown files are usually covered.

Bottom line

Ignorance makes the world a scary place. But knowledge will give you the weapons to face the risks and keep you as safe as possible. Breaches will always be a threat to everyone, and there isn’t a way you can always be safe. You need to use the internet, tools, and systems to always be like a bull’s-eye for the attackers. Having at least decent cyber-security education will reduce these risks.

If you want to take the next step, you should take a look at the Cybersecurity Resources Road Map. This guide will help you to identify the cybersecurity resources you need to keep your company safe and well protected.
