In today’s day and age, we rely so heavily on cars that the thought of life without them is unfathomable. We rely on our cars to take us to work, to class, to run errands, etc. Even for those who don’t personally own cars, they still can utilize cars to transport them where they need to go with ride share programs like Lyft and Uber. Ever since the invention of cars, life has never been the same.

Drivers Get Into Car Accidents With Serious Injuries

Before the invention of cars, the way people got around was by way of horse and buggy, right? So when cars were invented, it was indeed a treat to consumers. But we as imperfect humans, what do we do with good things? We mess them up. Being able to drive is a privilege, so much so that you have to pass driving tests in order to get your license to drive. With that being said, we’ll pass our driving tests and then go off and abuse our driving privileges, resulting in car accidents.

Car accidents happen every day all over the US and they occur for numerous reasons. The unfortunate part about the causes of a lot of these accidents is that they’re completely preventable, all you have to do is drive safe. Now, some accidents are completely out of your control but for the most part, a lot of car accidents are totally preventable and self-inflicted. Let’s take a look at some of the most common reasons why car accidents occur.

Distracted Driving

According to drivers.com, distracted driving is the number one cause of car accidents to date. Distracted driving is anything that takes your focus off of the road So, putting on makeup, eating, and the biggest culprit of them all… texting. Texting and driving is the top form of distracted driving. As of July 1, 2019, the new driving regulations require hands-free driving, meaning you cannot be holding your phone while you’re driving now and if you’re caught holding your phone while driving, you could face some hefty fines, depending on where you live.

Drunk Driving

Drunk driving is another completely preventable cause of car accidents, and these accidents result in fatalities a lot of times. Drunk driving is more prominent on weekends and holidays. To prevent this from happening, you either stay at home if you’re going to drink, not drink at all, or have someone else drive for you… just don’t get behind the wheel.

Now, this is always easier said than done but if you find yourself in a situation where you were drinking and driving and are now facing DUI charges, you will, of course, need to accept responsibility for your actions but if you if you hire the best DUI defense attorney, you will have a fighting chance at receiving a fair trial. Courts will offer public defenders but that’s not going to be enough protection for you in the courtroom. Even though you may have made the mistake of drunk driving, you still have rights and hiring a DUI defense attorney will ensure you’re entitled to your rights.

Speeding

When you see people speeding on the road, does it make you wonder where they’re in such a rush to get to? Speeding is actually the 2nd most common cause of car accidents. Some people speed because they’re late getting somewhere while others just have “heavy feet” but regardless of the reason, speeding is very unnecessary.

Oftentimes, people who speed forget that there are other drivers on the road and all it takes is one driver to switch lanes into a speeder’s path and boom… there’s a major accident. That reason alone is why there are speed limits plastered all over the roads and interstates. Not only does speeding result in car accidents but they also result in steep speeding tickets as well.

If you’ve ever been pulled over for speeding, the first thing the police officer asks is “do you know why I pulled you over?” and the very next thing he’ll ask is “where are you heading to in such a hurry?” and understandably so because there’s nowhere in the world that’s that important for you to not only put your own life at risk but put others lives at risk as well. Pump the brakes and slow down… regardless of what speed you go, you’ll see that your best destination will still be there.
