Attention Behind the Firewall
Alex Barnett notes that ConnectBeam, a "social production and collaboration for the enterprise" service, is just "one of many offerings that'll go to market over the next few weeks and months in this space that will involve social bookmarking inside the firewall."
And if bookmarks, tags and other explicit gestures are crystallized attention, the next obvious step is the deployment of enterprise attention services powered by implicit gestures--users' clickstreams, browsing histories, etc.
I personally think this raises some interesting questions: Who owns attention data when it's created in an enterprise setting? The employee? The company? Both?
AttentionTrust was founded on the principle that users should be able to control their own data, but companies have frequently asserted ownership over employees' work products created during working hours on company machines. So what's going to happen to all that data?
