The holiday season is around the corner, which means you might be ready to start decorating. However, before the inflatable lawn characters and bright lights can come out, it’s important to prepare your home. This will help decorating go smoothly so you can enjoy making your home look fun and whimsical. The tips below, in particular, are some of the best to get you started.

1. Store Unnecessary Decor

If you plan on putting out a lot of new decor for the season, then you’ll likely need to store the items that you already have on display throughout the year. Do this ahead of time so you’re not trying to juggle too many things at once. Plastic storage tubs are easy solutions because they store in the garage and can contain a lot of decorations.

2. Clean Up

Give yourself a fresh start for holiday decorating by cleaning up around the house. This should include mopping the floors, cleaning the windows, and dusting off your shelves. Just doing some light cleaning can make all the difference with how your home looks once it’s fully decorated for the holidays ahead.

Tip: If your floors are looking rough and traditional mopping isn’t helping, then consider having them professionally cleaned. This will improve their appearance while also increasing the longevity of the floors.

Pest control

3. Get the Pests Out

The last thing you (or your guests) want to see is pests crawling around your beautiful home. To avoid this and keep your home bug-free, it’s recommended to call in a professional pest control service. If you’re looking for a local company, Turner Pest Control comes to your home so you don’t have to keep dangerous bug sprays in your home. These professionals will even do a full evaluation to identify troublesome areas and place deterrents so bugs stay away for longer.

4. Clean the Outside

While it’s important to have pest deterrents placed around your home, don’t forget to clean up the landscaping as well. Trim trees, cut down dead branches, rake up leaves and clean off outdoor furniture. A little bit of care can go a long way with improving the curb appeal of your house and making it look more welcoming for holiday guests.

5. Gather Decorations

If you have all of your decorations ready to go, you won’t have to second guess how you’re going to place everything inside of your home. Whether you’re buying new things or you’re pulling out storage bins from your garage, it’s best to have everything together before you decorate.

Holidays

6. Make a Comfortable Guest Bed

The holidays often bring expected and unexpected guests. Make sure they are comfortable by preparing a cozy guest bed before anyone shows up at your front door. Include soft (and clean) linens, a cozy comforter, and lots of soft pillows. Your guests will thank you for the thought when they get a good night’s sleep.

7. Clean Out The Fridge

If you have food in your fridge from earlier in the year, it’s a good idea to clean it out now. With the holidays comes a lot of leftovers and a lot more trips to the grocery store. Clean it out so you’ll be able to store all your food easily and safely.

Tip: Storage containers inside the fridge can help with organization while also saving space.

A Happy Holiday Ahead

While the holidays might naturally mean more stress than you’re used to, your home doesn’t have to be one of those sources of stress. With the tips above, you can create a space you are comfortable in and can’t wait to share with your guests.
