Toilet Flush Problems

  • 1. Check the Water Mechanism
  • 2. Check the Draining
  • 3. Check the Valve and Fix the Flush Lever.
  • 4. Check and Fix the Flapper

A toilet may refuse to flush because of various reasons. It may not flush when the water level is too low or when the flusher unit is not working properly. Similarly, when the flapper doesn’t lift well or when it closes to fast it may not flush. In other cases, it may refuse to flush when there is a clog or when the system is too weak. In this article, we delve into how you can fix a flush problem.

1. Check the Water Mechanism

The toilet may not flush as it should when the water level is too low. Therefore, you will need to add more water to make the water float higher before flushing. Also, check the water mechanism to make sure that it is in tact. Ensure that it allows the water level to rise until the float rides higher. In some cases, you may need to adjust the float itself. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions when adjusting the float so that it allows enough water into the tank. Take care not to bend or damage the float. Doing so may lead to other problems that may be too expensive to fix.

2. Check the Draining

A toilet that is not flushing properly could be frustrating. But as a homeowner, you should realize that a toilet will not flush properly if there is a problem in the tank. Also, the toilet may refuse to flush if it continues to drain. Solve this problem by making adjustments in the tank.

3. Check the Valve and Fix the Flush Lever.

One of the apparent reasons why the toilet may refuse to flush is when the tank does not receive water from its supply line. Also, the toilet will refuse to flush if the lever is not working. Try to check and fix problems at the pen valve. Ensure that the float is not obstructed or stuck. The other reason why the toilet may refuse to flush is when the chain to the flush lever is broken. If it is broken, it prevents the flapper from closing and opening. So have a look at the chain and try to adjust it by tightening or reducing the length of the wire.

4. Check and Fix the Flapper

When the flapper closes quickly, it makes it difficult for the toilet to flush. Typically, the flapper should lift up for some time to allow water to flow into the bowel. So when you realize that it closes fast, then there could be a problem. When this happens, the amount of water it releases into the bowel will not be sufficient. The best thing you need to do in this case is to check the amount of water that gets into the bowel. If it is insufficient, try to shorten the length of the chain. Make it hold the flapper longer to allow more water to drain into the bowel.

Lastly, when you notice that the toilet is not flushing as it should check the amount of water draining into the bowel. In most cases, the water may not be enough to make the toilet flush. Take your time to view Home Worthy List for info.
