Moving to Canada

  • The Country Is Enormous.
  • You’ll Need to Pack for the Cold.
  • It’s Incredibly Multi-cultural.
  • Politeness Is Valued.
  • Tipping Is Standard and Expected.
  • Final Words.

Known for its incredible landmarks, historical wonders, and delicious food – It’s easy to see why Canada is such a popular destination for expats. There is no limit to what you can do, and you’ll always be welcomed with open arms.

That being said, it is crucial to prepare yourself before relocating to another country. This will help reduce culture shock and ensures that you can settle in as quickly as possible.

Below we are going to talk about five things you should know before you move to Canada.

Sound interesting? Then let’s get started!

The Country Is Enormous.

Canada is the second-largest country in the world, and it’s something that many people forget about. It takes hours to drive to another province, and flights can get expensive.

However, its size can also be incredibly advantageous. There are a lot of places to choose from when you’re selecting where to live. From Saskatchewan Real Estate with access to beautiful natural attractions to city dwellings in Toronto and Montreal. The options really are endless.

You’ll Need to Pack for the Cold.

While Canada is not absent of sunshine and beaches, it’s important to note that when it gets cold – it’s freezing. Depending on where you live, temperatures can drop rapidly, and it’s not uncommon to wake up to snow on a regular basis.

Make sure that you pack plenty of cold-weather clothing. While you will be able to buy most gear over there, you don’t want to leave yourself short, especially when you’re busy unpacking and settling in.

It’s Incredibly Multi-cultural.

Another thing you should remember when moving to Canada is that it is incredibly multi-cultural. In fact, expats tend to feel comfortable, as so many others are going through the same situation.

If you’re having trouble adjusting, there is no lack of support groups that you can reach out to. Not to mention that there are plenty of friendly locals who will be willing to show you the ropes.

Politeness Is Valued.

You’ve probably already heard about the kindness of Canadians, but if you plan on moving there, you will need to show it too. Politeness is valued, and not just in the workplace.

Remember your manners, follow etiquette when you’re in public and don’t forget to be courteous – even to strangers. Everyone is like one big happy family, and now you are a part of it!

Tipping Is Standard and Expected.

Lastly, like its neighbor, the US, tipping culture is a normal part of Canadian life. If you’re coming from another country where it’s not common, it’s best to be prepared before arrival.

Usually, around 15-20% of the bill before tax is expected, depending on the quality of service. It can certainly take some getting used to.

Final Words.

And that’s it! These are five things that you should know before you move to Canada. Once you’ve got the basics down, you should be able to begin to settle into your new life in this incredible country.

What do you think? Are there any other suggestions you would add to this list?
