When it comThe 2020 Toyota 86 Sports Sedanes to powerful sports cars, few can engineer the type of excitement than the Toyota 86! While the competition struggles to catch up, Toyota continues to offer a combination of athleticism and practicality only they can provide. The excellent driving position and generous cargo space headline the 86, while the balanced chassis and communicative steering add some nice touches to the highly anticipated sports car. The four-cylinder engine is potent and refined and shines when tracing corners.

New for 2020 is a bevy of brand-new standard features while shuffling the 86’s lineup. Every trim of the Toyota 86 now comes with an enhanced infotainment system that comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The 86 also adds a new dark-grey color scheme called Pavement. And there is a new top-of-the-mountain trim called the Hakone Edition, which gets an exclusive green paint job, 17-inch wheels, and trim-specific interior features. For 2020, the 86 is boosted by a rear-drive layout and some great transmission choices. The first is a 2.0-liter flat-four engine that gets you from zero to 60 mph in a quick 6.2-seconds or less with the manual transmission. Optional is a six-speed automatic transmission that doesn’t ruin the fun of driving the vehicle. Even more fun is the 86’s direct, quick-ratio steering and delightful small-diameter steering wheel. The body stays flat throughout corners and quick transitions, while the steering inputs change the car’s direction with immediacy; as for fuel-efficiency, the Toyota 86 averages 37 mpg on the highway.

In contrast to its competition, the 86 is a comfortable and satisfying fit for the driver and the front-seat passenger. The driving position is perfect as it places the driver square to the steering wheel, and the pedals are a perfect distance away from the well-supportive seat. The cargo space and storage are uncompromised as the fold-down rear seats, and generous trunk space are some of the best seen in a sports car. Most people will be able to fit three carry-on suitcases inside the trunk.

Higher-level trims also come with a rear spoiler, LED fog lights, heated leather front seats, and a 4.2-inch display that monitors performance driving parameters such as real-time engine power use and cornering force.

The 2020 Toyota 86 is a compact coupe that is quick and gets even better as the road starts to bend. With a precise steering and playful handling, the 2020 86 is always engaged, especially when you get it with the six-speed automatic transmission. The harder you drive it on the highway on-ramp or stretch it out along a twisting and turning back road, the more rewarding it becomes.
