The 2020 Volvo XC40 Review, and Pictures

Volvo XC40 Review

How good is the 2020 Volvo XC40? Well, in the first year of production, it has already received two KBB Best Buy Awards and captured the hearts of millions of consumers. The overall look and feel of the XC40 is a cut above as this five-passenger SUV looks youthful and spunky with a standout C-pillar rising sharply from the base of the rear-door windows. There is a broad range of models and a long list of sophisticated options to go with the powerful 2.0-liter turbo engine to make this vehicle an all-around winner!

The engine used by the 2020 XC40 is a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 187 horsepower and 221 lb-ft of torque with front-wheel-drive. Also available, Volvo Cars of North Miami tells us is a T5 2.0-liter that provides you with 248 horsepower and all-wheel-drive. Both engines pair with an eight-speed automatic transmission as well as an automatic stop/start system which cuts the engine power while idling at stoplights. You can opt-out of this system by pressing a button on the touchscreen. Fuel economy on both engines is terrific with the XC40 getting as much as 33 mpg on the highway.

This luxury crossover seats five and has three trim levels available for purchase. Going with the base Momentum gets you some terrific features such as 18-inch wheels, LED headlights, a power liftgate, keyless ignition, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and a cloth and faux-leather upholstery. Tech features for the Momentum include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality and an eight-speaker audio system. The Momentum also comes with a ton of available safety features such as lane departure warning and forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking. Two option packages come with the Momentum, the Convenience, and the Premium. Going with the Convenience package gets you dual-zone climate control and an adjustable cargo load floor. The Premium package to that with a hands-free liftgate, keyless entry, a wireless charging pad, and a blind-spot monitor. Moving up the trim ladder to the R-Design gets you both packages, and adds larger wheels, a sport-tuned suspension, a panoramic sunroof, a navigation system, and leather upholstery. Luxury comes in the form of the Inscription trim which gives you unique wheels, leather upholstery, and wood trim.

With so many automakers viewing the small crossover SUV as a significant growth opportunity luxury brands are no exception. Nearly every high-end manufacturer produces at least one subcompact SUV. The Volvo XC40 is one of the newest of these SUVs and offers many of the qualities fo which Volvo is known. While the 2019 XC40 successfully translated the distinctive look of Volvo’s larger SUV to the subcompact genre, the 2020 version gives you everything you could want in a vehicle by adding things like a large central touchscreen, digital instrument panel, and floating air vents.

Last year’s XC40 was built on passenger safety, and the 2020 version is no different offering blind-spot monitoring and forward-collision warning. And the addition of cutting-edge options like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are nice touches. While not every luxury automaker has been able to package its core strengths into a small, affordable luxury crossover, Volvo has done its homework with the 2020 XC40! It’s undoubtedly an SUV worth recommending!
