Who says that short hair isn’t in right now? Okay, I guess nobody can say that, since it appears that we are actually seeing a rise in this haircut’s popularity nowadays. Ladies are more and more turning towards these gorgeous looks and they do have some good reasons for such a decision. Go here to learn about some of those reasons.
There is a common misconception that shorter hair requires less maintenance. That’s simply not correct. In fact, some styles are much more difficult to be achieved with shorter strands. So, while it might be true that you can just wash it and be ready to go out in as little as 15 minutes, it is definitely not true that you needn’t take any care of it. Long or short, it’s yours and I’m pretty sure that you want to keep the strands healthy while also looking amazing.
I can think of a lot of things in which ladies with longer hair have it easier, but there is one that particularly stands out. I’m talking about curls. Women with long strands can do almost anything in order to curl those strands and they will still look amazing. Those who are ready to flaunt the chic and stylish short looks will need to devote some more attention to actually curling their hair the right way and achieving a beautiful end look.
This shouldn’t discourage you from finally making that transition from long to short, though. No matter how difficult it might be at first to find the right method to get beautiful curls or waves, once you get the hang of it, you will see that these styles look really amazing on you and your short hair. All you have to do is take some time to learn how to do things the right way and I assure you that it is time worth taking. No style can top waves or curls on short hair.
What’s even better, when you finally learn how to achieve those amazing looks, they won’t take up more than a couple of minutes of your time, which is definitely another plus for the short styles. Ease of styling and the elegance of the final look should be more than enough to support your decision to cut those long strands. Now, of course, I don’t have anything against long hair, but given the fact that you are here, you are either thinking of getting it cut and you’re getting ready for it, or you have already cut it and now you want to learn how to style it.
Speaking of that, here are some styling ideas that might come in handy: https://www.goodhousekeeping.com/beauty/hair/g2774/how-to-style-short-hair/
For one reason or another, you are here to learn how to curl your short hair and that’s exactly what I’m going to help you with. If you thought that there is only one right way to do this, then you were definitely wrong from the very start. There are so many methods you can use to achieve the look that you are dreaming of and we are now going to take a look at some of those methods. So, sit back, relax and be prepared to try out a few methods of curling your short hair and choose your favorite one afterwards. Let’s get started.
Get That Curling Iron
As you might have guessed it already, one of the easiest methods involves using a curling iron. Now, I know that you are probably worried about damaging your strands and you cannot afford that, nor do you want it to happen, but here’s the thing. When you find the right tool and use it the right way, the damage will be minimal. I won’t tell you that there will be no damage at all, since that’s simply not true, but you can definitely minimize it to the point where it’s not even noticed. All you have to do is choose the perfect tool and use it in the perfect way.
Now, I am guessing that you already know that a curling iron should always be used on completely dry hair. I suppose that you also know the right movements, since there’s no way that you have never tried using this tool before, either on you or on somebody else. Here’s, however, what you should know when short hair is in question. For starters, remember to curl inside out and not the other way around. Additionally, make sure to always leave an inch or so of the ends straight, since that will help you achieve a beautiful, natural look that won’t appear too formal, but instead casual.
Use A Straightener
Every woman on Earth has heard about curling with a straightener, no matter how paradoxical that might sound. Yet, it seems that most ladies are struggling with the right technique necessary for doing this. Once again, it’s much easier on longer hair, but don’t let that discourage you. The truth is that you can achieve perfect waves by using a straightener on your short strands. Let me give you some tips on how to do that.
First, you should divide your hair in two sections at the back and then two more sections for each of those, so that you get a top and a bottom part. The bottom part might be a bit more difficult to reach, but don’t worry, since the top part will cover it all up. Once you have divided everything in those sections, it’s time to heat up the tool and get started. There are two different methods, or movements, that you can make with a straightener in order to achieve the perfect style.
The first method requires you to hold the straightener diagonally at the top, or the area from which you want your waves to begin, then wrap the hair once around it and pull the straightener towards the bottom. This will result in looser, casual waves. The second method is pretty much the same, only instead of holding the straightener diagonally, you will hold it parallel to the ground. That will result in some tighter curls. Figure out what you want, or try both methods to see what works better for you.
Pin Curl
If you are really against using any kind of heating devices, but you still want to achieve the curly look, then you need to learn how to pincurl your hair and get the appearance you want without worrying about damaging the strands. As the name says it, this technique involves using pins. No matter how short your hair is, you will need a lot of pins to make this a successful project. This is one of the oldest techniques and the fact that it has lived on up to know only shows that it is super effective. Here’s how it is done.
Of course, you will first need to wash your hair, since this is done on damp strands. Some ladies like to use some curling gels or creams, but that depends both on the type of your hair and your personal requirements. Whether you use a gel or not, the next step is to comb the strands and get rid of any tangles that might have been created during the washing process, or while applying the gel or the cream. Once the tangles are gone, it’s time to divide your hair into small sections and make sure that they are as even as possible.
The next step is to take one section at a time and start wrapping the strands around your finger from top to bottom. Don’t wrap it too tight on the finger, or you will have a hard time pulling that finger out and that can lead to the curl you created getting all messy. After you have removed the finger, take a bobby pin and secure the lock you have created to your scalp. Upon doing this with every single strand, you might want to secure everything with a bit of hair spray.
All you have to do now is wait for your hair to dry. Once it is completely dry, remove all the pins and gently run your fingers through all the curls and again, add some spray if you feel that the style won’t hold. As you can see, this technique takes some more time and effort, but the beautiful, wavy look that you will get is definitely worth it. Plus, there’s no heat, so there’s no damage whatsoever.
Here are some more no-heat techniques you might want to try:
Headbands
Continuing along the same lines, here’s another no-heat method that you will absolutely love. This one can take less time than the pin curl technique, especially once you get the hang of it after trying it out a few times. Practice makes perfect, remember, so if you don’t get it right the first time, the worst thing you can do is give up and move on to a different tool. A headband is among the least damaging tools you can think of.
It’s also among the easiest tools to use, meaning that it can give you an amazing look without you having to put in too much effort. We are all always in one kind of a rush or another and we could really use some tips on how to style or hair without too much trouble. A headband can help you let your strands curl all on their own while you are focusing on certain other things that you might need to do at a particular moment.
For this method, you will need your brush and your headband. That’s all it takes. Once again, it’s best if the hair is damp. Place the headband around your head, with the front part going across your forehead. Take the first section of your hair from the front and wrap it around the headband as many times as you can.
Then, keep taking the sections next to it, combining each next section with the previous one until you reach the back of your head. Do the same on the other side of your head and make sure to secure any areas that you might feel are loose with bobby pins. You can sleep with this and have perfectly styled hair in the morning, or you could just keep it on for a couple of hours before removing it and watching the results. If you decide to sleep with it, make sure that every section is properly secured, so that it doesn’t all get loose and messy overnight.
Braiding
If you are skilled enough, here’s a technique (get more here) that can help you get amazing waves overnight as well. This time, however, you won’t have to worry about anything getting loose and messy while you are sleeping, because there’s absolutely no way that you can unbraid your hair while peacefully asleep. Regarding the skills that I have mentioned, this technique requires you to know how to braid your short hair, or to get a friend to do it for you.
In case you are a master braider, you could also make the twisted braids, which are much more effective in curling your strands. Plus, there really are many different braiding methods that you might employ, but if you aren’t that skilled, you can go for the regular one. You will definitely be happy with the results in the morning, just make sure that the braid is tight once you make it. All you have to do in the morning is run your fingers through the curls and you’ll get the amazing look you were striving for.
As you can see, some of these techniques might be more difficult than the others and some of them might also be less damaging than the others. Which technique you will choose depends on the time you want to devote to these styles, as well as on how much you want to protect your strands. I’d suggest you try out all of the techniques in order to figure out which one can give you the perfect curls that you are picturing.
