Relationships with Customers

If you are able to build genuine relationships with the customers that you serve, you’ll be sure to improve your business to no end. Once such a relationship has been cultivated between the two of you, your customers will feel much more inclined to choose your company over others in your market that they do not share the same kind of connection with.

If you want to build genuine relationships with your customers going forward, you must put the following advice into practice.

Show that you genuinely care

you genuinely care

The first thing that you must do in your bid to build genuine relationships with your customers is showcase the fact that you genuinely care about them. Don’t treat your customers like they are ‘just another consumer’ — treat each individual like he or she is the most important client you’ve ever dealt with.

Showing that you genuinely care need not be all bells and whistles. You don’t have to roll out the red carpet for your customers whenever they arrive on your premises. Taking on this all-important challenge can simply entail you asking how their day has been or wishing them a happy birthday.

Embrace demand generation

Your goal should be to make life as easy as it can possibly be for your customers, which means that you need to be taking your products, services, and marketing campaigns to them. By embracing demand generation, you will be able to do just that. This will see you provide value to your customers on the channels that they use on a daily basis. Ultimately, this will mean that they won’t have to go out of their way to find information relating to your business, and that’s something they’ll be sure to appreciate.

To improve your demand generation, you should:

  • Align your campaign goals to your marketing strategy
  • Determine customer touchpoints
  • Aim to solve bigger problems
  • Create accountability

Be aware of what they value

If you’re to give your customers what they want, you first need to be aware of what it is they value. Is it interactivity? Accessibility? Low prices? Loyalty bonuses? Whatever it is your target consumer base appreciate above all else, you need to cultivate an understanding of it. By being more aware of what it is they value, you’ll stand a chance of being able to adjust your approach going forward in your attempt to meet their expectations.

To cultivate a deeper understanding of what it is your customers’ value above all else, you’re going to perform some market research. To do this, consider the following:

  • Define your buyer persona
  • Identify a portion of this persona that you wish to engage
  • Engage these proposed participants
  • Prepare open-ended questions
  • Make a list of your primary competitors

Adapt to their pace

Regardless of what pace your customers are operating at — whether they need more time to process the information that you have provided or whether they are in a rush to seal the deal — you need to adapt to it. Even if this makes life a little bit harder for yourself, taking this action will show your customers that you are willing to put their needs before your own.
